Dr. Madhumangal Pal is a distinguished academician, researcher, and administrator, presently serving as Professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics at Vidyasagar University, West Bengal. With over three decades of experience in teaching, research, and academic administration, he has made outstanding contributions to Applied Mathematics, Graph Theory, Fuzzy Mathematics, and Operations Research, earning national and international recognition. Born on February 15, 1967, Dr. Pal completed his B.Sc. (Honours) in Mathematics from Vidyasagar University in 1988, securing second rank. He obtained his M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from the same institution in 1990, achieving first rank with specialization in Operations Research. He was awarded the Ph.D. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, in 1996 under the supervision of Prof. G. P. Bhattacharjee. His doctoral thesis, entitled “Some Sequential and Parallel Algorithms on Interval Graphs,” laid a strong foundation for his subsequent research in algorithmic graph theory and fuzzy graph models. Dr. Pal began his teaching career in 1997 and has been associated with Vidyasagar University since 1999, steadily progressing through academic ranks to become Professor. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Saveetha School of Engineering, Chennai. His teaching portfolio includes Numerical Analysis, Graph Theory, Discrete Mathematics, Classical Mechanics, Fuzzy Mathematics, Operations Research, Algorithms, Data Structures, Research Methodology, and Computer Programming. An internationally acclaimed researcher, Dr. Pal has authored 11 books and edited 4 research volumes published by reputed international publishers such as Springer, Elsevier, CRC Press, PHI Learning, and IGI Global. He has published more than 430 research articles in SCI/SCIE, Scopus, and Web of Science indexed journals. His research interests prominently include fuzzy graphs, fuzzy matrices, soft computing, optimization, and decision-making models, along with interdisciplinary applications. He also holds several filed and granted patents in areas spanning computer science, biomedical engineering, and artificial intelligence. Dr. Pal has successfully supervised 46 Ph.D. scholars and continues to mentor doctoral and postdoctoral researchers. He has completed several funded research projects supported by SERB/DST, UGC, and the Government of West Bengal, and serves on the editorial boards of numerous national and international journals. In recognition of his academic excellence, he has received several prestigious awards and has been listed among the world’s top 2% scientists by Stanford University in multiple consecutive years. Currently, as Director of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Vidyasagar University, he plays a pivotal role in institutional quality assurance, accreditation, and higher education reforms.

Dr. Madhumangal Pal’s academic interests span a broad spectrum of theoretical and applied areas in mathematics, with particular emphasis on graph theory and its interdisciplinary applications. His primary research focus lies in graph theory, especially fuzzy graphs, interval-valued graphs, soft graphs, and neutrosophic graph structures, where he investigates structural properties, optimization techniques, and decision-making models under uncertainty. He has a strong interest in fuzzy matrices, eigenvalue analysis, and sensitivity analysis, which are applied to complex systems in engineering, ecology, and social networks. Another major area of his academic interest is operations research, including optimization techniques, network analysis, scheduling, and resource allocation problems, particularly in uncertain and imprecise environments. He is also deeply engaged in soft computing methodologies, integrating fuzzy logic, rough sets, and hybrid intelligent systems to solve real-world problems. Dr. Pal actively explores interdisciplinary applications of mathematics in areas such as energy systems, ecological modeling, transportation networks, healthcare analytics, and decision support systems. His academic interests further extend to algorithm design and analysis, computational graph theory, and data-driven mathematical modeling. In addition, he is interested in quality assurance in higher education, curriculum design, and outcome-based education, reflecting his commitment to academic leadership and institutional development.
