Biographical Sketch
Prof. Ajay Kumar Misra is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry & Chemical Technology at Vidyasagar University, Midnapore. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata (1998) under the supervision of Prof. Mihir Chowdhury, followed by postdoctoral research at the University of California, Davis, USA (1998–2001) with Prof. August H. Maki. He began his academic career as a Lecturer at R. K. M. V. C. College, Rahara, and has been associated with Vidyasagar University since 2005, serving as Reader, Associate Professor, and Professor (since 2011). He teaches postgraduate courses in quantum mechanics, group theory, spectroscopy, and nanomaterials. His research interests include perovskite nanomaterials and their photophysical and optoelectronic properties, low-dimensional organic materials for chemo-sensing, nonlinear optical (NLO) materials, and AI-based soft computing approaches for materials prediction. Prof. Misra has completed five major research projects, published over 100 research articles in international journals, and has supervised 23 Ph.D. scholars. His contributions have been recognized with the Prof. S. C. Ameta Award (2017) by Indian Chemical Society, Siksha Ratna Award by the Government of West Bengal (2021), Fellow of the West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology (2024), and the P. Natarajan Endowment Lecture (2025) at the University of Madras.
