Biographical Sketch
Dr. Maidul Hossain is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Technology at Vidyasagar University, West Bengal, India. Dr. Hossain began his teaching career in 2012 with Vidyasagar University. Born on February 17, 1977, Dr. Hossain obtained his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (Honours) from the University of Burdwan and completed his Master of Science and Ph.D. in Chemistry at Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He is also a recipient of the CSIR Research Associateship and qualified the CSIR National Eligibility Test and GATE examination. His doctoral research in biophysical chemistry focused on the interaction of intercalating and groove-binding molecules with deoxyribonucleic acids (DNA) under the supervision of Dr. G. Suresh Kumar at the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology. Dr. Hossain’s research interests include biophysical chemistry, nanomaterials, molecular sensing, and biomolecular interactions. His work focus on the synthesis and characterization of functional nanomaterials such as metal nanoparticles and carbon-based nanostructures, with applications in sensing toxic ions, biomolecular recognition, and environmental analysis. He has contributed significantly to the understanding of interactions between small molecules, nanoparticles, and biological macromolecules using advanced spectroscopic and thermodynamic approaches. He has published more than 100 research articles in SCI/SCIE, Scopus, and Web of Science indexed journals. Dr. Hossain has successfully supervised 11 Ph.D. scholars and continues to mentor doctoral researchers in areas including eco-friendly nanoparticle synthesis, biosensing, and biomolecular interaction studies, contributing to the development of sustainable and interdisciplinary chemical research. He has completed several funded research projects supported by SERB/ UGC, and the Government of West Bengal. His academic contributions have been recognized through prestigious distinctions, including the IUPAB Young Scientist Travel Award at the 17th International Biophysics Congress and the Prof. G. N. Ramachandran Travel Award from the Indian Biophysical Society. Dr. Hossain is a life member of the Indian Biophysical Society, the DNA Society of India, and the Society of Biological Chemists (India). He is actively engaged in teaching, research, and academic mentorship, contributing to the advancement of chemical sciences and higher education.
Academic Interest
Dr. Maidul Hossain’s research integrates biophysical chemistry with functional nanomaterials for applications in chemical biology, environmental monitoring, and analytical science. His work focuses on eco-friendly synthesis of metal nanoparticles and carbon-based nanostructures using green chemistry approaches, with applications in sensing toxic metal ions, biomolecular recognition, and biological imaging. He has contributed significantly to understanding the interactions of nanoparticles and small molecules with DNA, RNA, and proteins, providing insights into biomolecular recognition and therapeutic potential. His research also advances fluorescence-based sensing, supramolecular systems, and selective analytical platforms for environmental and biomedical applications. Through doctoral supervision, interdisciplinary collaboration, and sustained scholarly publication, Dr. Hossain actively contributes to the advancement of chemical sciences and strengthens the research profile of Vidyasagar University in emerging areas of nanotechnology and molecular science.
